English Australia’s 31st Annual Conference was held in September over three days in Sydney.
As the largest event of its kind in Australia, delegates came from all sectors involved in the delivery of English Language Intensive Courses to Overseas Students (ELICOS) including teachers, trainers, administrators, student support staff and service providers.
The theme this year was Thriving in Changing Times, reflecting the scope and pace of changes to the industry including legislation, the rise of tech and innovations in teaching methods.
A Q&A session with a panel of international students provided delegates a first-hand account of students’ experiences learning English and how this could be improved.
RMIT English Worldwide (REW) sponsored the Thursday morning tea break and provided branded cupcakes as part of their 50 year celebrations.
During the break, Brett Blacker, CEO of English Australia introduced Lynda Beagle, REW Melbourne Director to highlight the significant achievement.
“We are pleased to support this year’s conference and for the opportunity to celebrate 50 years providing English language services in Australia and around the globe,” she said.
“We invite you all to join us and reflect on the contribution we make to the industry.”
RMIT English Worldwide has been providing education solutions to clients globally for 50 years. Starting as a language centre in 1968 supporting students on their entry into RMIT University, it has evolved into a global centre of excellence for developing and delivering English language programs.
Solutions include English for Academic Purposes, Aviation English courses, English language testing, and professional development for English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers.
REW was also represented by Nick Philippou, REW Deputy Director; David Threadgold, Study Success Manager; and Louise Austin, Team Leader, who all attended as part of their professional development.
Each year REW sends a group of educators and managers to the event to network and learn about the latest developments in the industry. These insights are then shared via internal PD sessions everyone can benefit from the topics discussed.
