ABC Education Learn English series featuring REW teachers goes live

REW collaborated with the ABC on a new ABC Learn English EAP web series which has now gone live, and two REW teachers presented two episodes each.

Learning Academic Vocabulary

In May this year, ABC Education filmed a new Learn English – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) web series and RMIT English Worldwide (REW) proudly hosted the filming at their Bourke Street, Melbourne premises.

The series has been developed for domestic and international audiences interested in learning English for Academic Purposes (EAP) – a program designed to provide learners with the academic English skills required for higher education and vocational education programs in which English is the medium of instruction. Two teachers from REW, Jennifer Priest and Scott Clare, presented two episodes each, as did four other teachers from other accredited EAP providers in Melbourne.

The program consists of twelve ten-minute episodes based on the highly successful series ABC Education Mini Lessons. ABC Education Australia currently boasts over 170,000 monthly views and ABC International receives over 2,199,000 views, providing good exposure for the teachers and their institutions.

This series, targeted at EAP teachers and their students, features updated content for the blended/online learning environment we are working in. It’s also a good showcase of the talent of the Australian ELICOS sector. Each episode is presented by a teacher from an Australian English language teaching institution who provides tips and tricks using the explicit teaching strategy on specific topics to enable learners to use English in an academic context effectively.

Learners can complete an interactive quiz at the end of the episode to test their understanding, and transcripts are available for further study.

Take a look at this great behind the scenes video featuring a discussion about the series between REW teachers and presenters Jennifer Priest and Scott Clare, producer of the series Shivali Nayak and REW Deputy Director, Nick Philippou.

Nick said, “Both Jenny and Scott have done themselves and REW proud with their excellent work with these programs.  In our discussion with Shivali, it was great to hear how they were able to collaborate to such great effect in taking areas or Academic English that students often find challenging and developing really clear, engaging and useful video lessons that I know many viewers will appreciate and find helpful in their learning.”
