Technology tips – Harvard referencing

Are you writing a referenced essay or report? There are a lot of websites and programs that can help you with in-text citations (direct quotes and paraphrasing), plagiarism and reference lists.

There are many ways you can use these tools to help you improve your assignments.

myRMIT

RMIT

The RMIT University website has many helpful tools.

Open myRMIT, click on myStudies, and choose your level (REW06 or REW07). From here, open Blackboard for your level. This is a great place to start as there are helpful links to the library and referencing information.

Libraries

You can visit the Swanston Library  in Building 10, level 5 or the Carlton Library in Building 94, level 3. You can borrow books, use a computer, printer or photocopier, use a study space, or talk to a librarian at both libraries. Another option is to go online to read e-journals, e-books or watch videos.

Using library search, you can find reputable resources connected to your topics, such as journal articles, books and RMIT research publications.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a special search for academic research and articles. Using this tool will help you find reputable, reliable, relevant information for your assignment. Normally, you have to pay to access the full article/report, but as an RMIT student, your access is free. Click on this link or the link in Blackboard to log in.

Assignment Planner

Assignment Planner is a tool that can help you work out the timeline for completing your assignment on time. It will break the project up into steps and give helpful suggestions for each stage.
