RMIT English Worldwide Student Storybird Competition

Monday 14 November, 2011

Congratulations to Putri Tieta Antaresti Riska for winning first prize in the Student Storybird Competition for her submission “My Gift is You”. Putri, an Advanced Plus student from Indonesia, was awarded a $70 David Jones voucher for her winning story.

Storybird (www.storybird.com ) is a free online service offering users the opportunity to construct short, art-inspired storybooks in collaboration with digital artists.

In November 2011, the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) at the Melbourne Language Centre invited students to create their own Storybirds as part of the competition. Once a shortlist of six finalists was released, students flocked in their dozens to the ILC to read their classmates’ creative contributions before casting their personal votes. Putri was the clear winner amongst her competitors.

The Student Storybird Competition has aided in promoting extra-curricular avenues to improve core macro-skills (reading and writing) in the ILC. It has also engaged students creatively and engendered a sense of team spirit and camaraderie. We look forward to holding similar student competitions in 2012. Watch this space for more!
