Have you heard about Tech Talk?

Tuesday 22 May, 2012

Information technology is rapidly shifting and evolving. This sets an ongoing challenge for IT employees to maintain awareness of and familiarity with leading edge technology. RMIT Training Information Technology is committed to meeting this challenge and supporting IT employees in discovering and sharing new ideas and systems. Recently, they have started conducting weekly Tech Talks, where IT employees can share their skills, findings and knowledge with their peers.

Every week, one IT employee presents a short presentation on a specific technology or communication system to their colleagues. To date, there have been seven Tech Talks, covering topics as diverse as:

  • project management
  • web application security
  • social media for businesses
  • mobile app development
  • hardware input and output devices such as USB ports
  • Firefox and Google Chrome extensions
  • deciphering IT jargon.
All of the Tech Talks have been enthusiastically received by IT, with growing attendances at each event. While the target audience is primarily IT employees, Tech Talk is proving so popular that other non-IT employees have also actively embraced the opportunity to listen, learn and socialise with IT specialists. Tech Talk aims to encourage IT employees to:
  • learn and foster new skills in IT, as well as update and maintain their existing abilities
  • share knowledge in their unique areas of expertise
  • increase their confidence in presenting to large groups
  • enhance teamwork skills
  • become more effective.
  •
Tech Talk takes place every Monday at 3.30 pm in the IT Operations and Support area. Interested RMIT Training employees are welcome to come along to join in discussions about the latest technology news and developments.
