Community Day supports La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary

Thursday 23 February, 2012

RMIT Training's Community Day initiative was launched last week, with the Leadership Team spending the day working with La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary at one of the state's most significant sanctuaries.

The team planted more than 400 trees, which will help reintroduce wildlife into the sanctuary.

This was the first group from RMIT Training to take up the offer to spend a day giving back to the community. The Leadership Team hopes to inspire other groups across the company to get involved.

RMIT Training provides the opportunity for each employee to take a day of volunteer leave per year to undertake community activities with a not-for-profit group or community service organisation.

The potential impact of this initiative is significant, considering RMIT Training has more than 145 employees in Melbourne.

RMIT Training CEO, Rachel Holthouse, said encouraging social engagement in the communities in which the company operated was crucial.

‘It reflects the company's belief that it is important to give back to society in ways that are meaningful for our employees and responsive to the needs around us,’ Ms Holthouse said.

‘It was both inspiring and a lot of fun to spend a day together helping such a worthy organisation as Conservation Volunteers and we are looking forward to doing more in the future.’

RMIT Training employees are encouraged to participate in the community day by completing a volunteering request form and submitting this to Human Resources for consideration.
